Rosie & Kirk were married on Labor Day Weekend at the gorgeous, Artifact Events in Ravenswood. When they learned that the average wedding day produces 400lbs of trash and 60 tons of CO2 they wanted to do their day a little differently. Rosie & Kirk’s wedding had eco-friendly practices incorporated throughout their day.

Finding Eco-Friendly Wedding Vendors

The first thing Rosie & Kirk did to make their green wedding happen was choosing vendors from The Green Wedding Alliance. When you book 3 or more approved vendors The Green Wedding Alliance will make you a Green Circle Member, giving you a badge of honor to put on your wedding website or display in a frame on your big day. They’ll also plant a tree in your and your spouse’s honor! How cool!

First, they found us! Here at Naturally Yours Events our commitment to being sustainable is our priority.  Then, they found Toast and Jam to be a no-brainer for their DJ services.

Creating Less Waste

While the happy couple did choose Flower for Dreams for their personal flowers and a stunning arch to be married under. The couple wanted to rent and DIY their supplementary decor. They rented lanterns and candles for their aisle decor through Something Borrowed Blooms. Rosie and Kirk also spent time leading up to the wedding DIY’ing arrangements for their welcome and favor tables, using cuts of logs for elevation where needed, and putting old Mason jars to use!

Where does the waste go?

Cutting down on waste is definitely possible, but how can we offset the waste we create along the way? Rosie & Kirk had bins and a rep from Urban Canopy on-site to handle the composting for the day and gave them bins and instructions for their day-after brunch. Rosie & Kirk hosted a family-style dinner with Publican. They were able to rent all of their flatware and linens through their catering team as well. The food scraps, cardboard, and paper from this dinner were all able to be composted instead of thrown away! They set out compostable takeaway containers for guests to take sweets home in.

Re-Use is Easy!

Rosie & Kirk also opted for re-using a lot of their flowers and decor from this event for their morning-after brunch. At the end of the night, we packed up a van with their floral arrangements, signage, DIY elements and leftover cupcakes to be utilized the next morning.

We loved helping this green wedding come to life with an eco-fabulous team of vendors.
