Inspiration: Hunger Games Wedding Ceremony

I am so excited to share a recent photo shoot I had designed that was completely inspired from the Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins. Being as I am an environmentally friendly planner, I really connected with the main character, Katniss, and her love and respect for nature. I didn’t want this wedding inspiration to feel too themed, this way those who are not familiar with the books will love the images too.
Our photographer, Anthony Barlich, captured the richness and rustic style of this shoot perfectly. I couldn’t be more pleased with his amazing work and talent!
I absolutely love everything our Florist, Megan with Pistil & Vine, touches. Her use of these sultry colors accented with lots of textured elements for the bouquet blew me away!
The black wedding gown was handmade by Mignonette Bridal and inspired completely from the wedding dress in Catching Fire. The side train is adorned with black “Mockingjay” feathers while the sheer sleeves create a smoky look.
Menswear for Peeta included a three piece vintage suit selected from Humble Collective. With the suit’s stone coloring he almost blends right in to the rocks!
I pulled inspiration for the ceremony location based on the cave depicted in the Hunger Games where Katniss nursed Peeta. The canyons of this Illinois forest preserve was the perfect backdrop for the wedding ceremony.
The ceremony included traditions found in District 4 where the couple is wed wrapped closely within a blanket.
Debbie Petrielli maintained the signature braided hairstyle that Katniss wears throughout the book but added an elegant twist off the shoulder and some cameo broaches. Melissa with Make up Your Beauty finished the look with a soft natural glow and pop of coral on the lips.
This shoot was just featured on Elizabeth Anne Designs and I couldn’t be more excited, so be sure to check that out! I hope you enjoyed this Hunger Games inspired ceremony! Reception photos and more amazing detail shots to follow.
